Astigmatism
Astigmatism is an imperfection in the curvature of the cornea (the transparent dome that covers the iris and pupil of the eye), or in the lens structure (crystalline) of the eye.
Causes of astigmatism
When the cornea has an irregular shape, the condition is called corneal astigmatism. When the lens shape is distorted, the condition is called lenticular astigmatism. As a result of any of these types of astigmatism, near or far vision of objects becomes blurred or distorted.
Diagnosis
Your ophthalmologist will perform a complete eye exam, and will use various instruments to measure the way your eye focuses light.
Treatment of Astigmatism
For some people with astigmatism, a surgery may be the option to correct vision.
