Retinal detachment

Once the retina is detached, the only solution is surgical.

The objectives of the treatment are to close by laser or cryotherapy the tear or rupture that has led to the detachment of the retina and place the retina in place.

This can be done by pushing from outside the wall of the eyeball to it, by placing belts or pieces of silicone, or performing a vitrectomy and then introducing gas or silicone oil into the vitreous cavity .

The intervention is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia and sedation.

Macular degeneration associated with age

Wet AMD is usually more aggressive and evolves more quickly than dry AMD. There is no curative treatment for AMD, but nowadays, there are treatments that can stop or stop it, especially wet AMD. We have treatments that are drugs that we can inject into the eye and thus slow down the progression of wet AMD.

For dry AMD there is no curative treatment, nor are there any medications that we can inject into the eye to slow down its evolution (as with wet AMD).

Nutritional supplements may be prescribed, especially in the early stages of dry AMD since many studies show that they can slow the progression of the disease.

Diabetic retinopathy

Treatment usually does not cure diabetic retinopathy nor does it usually restore normal vision, but it can slow the progression of vision loss. Without treatment, diabetic retinopathy progresses continuously, from a minimum to severe stages.

Types of treatments:

  • Photocoagulation: Laser procedure to treat damage to the retina

  • Injection of anti-angiogenesis: We perform injections to prevent the progression of the disease

  • Vitrectomy: Operation in which damage inside the eye is repaired
